Bridgepoint enters CEE market

European private equity firm Bridgepoint today announced that it is to open a regional office in Warsaw to address the growing opportunity represented by the Central and Eastern European market. The new office will be led by the former head of Advent International's operations in Poland, Khai Tan, who becomes a partner of Bridgepoint.

Commenting on the development, Bridgepoint managing partner William Jackson said that the move was a logical next step in the international development of Bridgepoint. "A regional office in Warsaw serving Central and Eastern European market will allow us to do two things. Many of our existing investments already have significant interests in the region and a physical presence will allow us to support them more effectively with acquisitions or with operational developments there. Secondly, an office will also allow us to access new investment opportunities in line with our broad investment strategy."

Khai Tan joined Advent International in Poland in 2003 having previously worked for the retail and wholesale distributor of consumer products, Eastbridge Group, in Central Europe where latterly he was CFO. Previously he worked for ING Bank in Brazil, Poland and the Philippines from 1987 to 1998. Mr Tan is a graduate of, and holds an MBA from, Nijenrode University of the Netherlands.

In 2006 Bridgepoint invested over €868 million in five new investments with a total transaction value of €3 billion. It also made a number of realisations in 2006 resulting in it being able to return more than €2 billion to its investors. Bridgepoint currently has offices in Frankfurt, London, Luxembourg, Madrid, Milan, Paris and Stockholm.
