We are committed to delivering attractive returns for our investors by investing in companies and building stronger, sustainable businesses in a responsible way.
Our approach to ESG is guided by core principles and is set out in a formal policy agreed by the Firm’s ESG Committee and approved by the Group Board:
Bridgepoint continuously develops and enhances its responsible investment approach, taking into account the latest international standards, guidelines and best practice. These include: the UN Global Compact, the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) recommendations, the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises. Bridgepoint was an early signatory to the United Nations supported Principles for Responsible Investment (‘PRI’) and is committed to supporting the global transition to a net zero economy, aligned to the goals of the Paris Agreement.
The Bridgepoint ESG Framework enables Investment Teams to systematically integrate ESG considerations into the entire investment lifecycle, from pre-acquisition through to ownership monitoring and exit. It also provides the structure to implement our high standards of corporate governance at the funds’ portfolio companies.
Investment Teams are responsible for appraising material ESG risks and opportunities as part of the due diligence process. All pre-investment proposals submitted to our Investment Advisory Committee for consideration include an assessment of ESG-related factors and of a company’s ESG risks and opportunities to be managed.
We also have an ESG Committee which separately reviews every new investment opportunity and provides views where relevant with external ESG advisors supporting Investment Teams in completing their analysis.
Key areas of focus include anti-corruption (“ABC”) measures (a standalone ABC review is conducted on all transactions by external legal advisers), health, safety and employment practices, supply chain management, cyber-security and environmental compliance. We strive to instil the highest corporate governance standards in our portfolio companies and make changes required to ensure appropriate structures are in place that align with our requirements and those of our investors.
All Bridgepoint portfolio companies are expected to have an ESG policy. A Bridgepoint representative will be assigned to the Board and is responsible for ensuring that the portfolio company Board is responsible for ESG and provides appropriate resources to support implementation of the policy. The Board regularly reviews ESG processes.
Once a company has come into the Bridgepoint portfolio, our Investment Teams, with support from our ESG Team or external advisers, work with management to ensure the portfolio company has the appropriate policies and reporting procedures in place to address material ESG matters.
