Investment Strategies

Middle Market

Seeking out strong markets & sustainable growth

Our middle market team focuses on investing responsibly in companies with strong market positions, a sustainable competitive advantage and earnings growth potential. Using our industrial, commercial and local expertise, we’re keen to work with experienced managers to acquire businesses where we can create significant value and superior performance.

We make equity investments between €150 million and €1 billion in companies capitalised between €200 million and €1.5 billion.

We fund buyouts and buy-ins as well as helping companies de-list from the stock exchange in six sectors: Business Services, Consumer, Financial Services, Healthcare, MedTech & Pharma, Manufacturing & Industrials and Digital, Technology & Media.

As entrepreneurs, our aim is to identify and partner with likeminded management teams with a common aim: to accelerate organic growth and target strategic add-on acquisitions whilst driving operational best practice and efficiency.

After we’ve invested, we serve on portfolio company boards, providing advice to executives, sharing expertise and experience as well as adding value by participating in a business’s strategic development. In return, we motivate the managers we back through equity participation so that they can realise significant financial rewards for the value they create.

Supporting global ambitions

Bridgepoint regularly supports businesses with the potential to expand operations regionally and globally. It is able to facilitate this geographic expansion – often into markets with higher growth potential - thanks to its extensive cross-border and transatlantic expertise and relationships as well as the skill of our investment professionals to operate sensitively and seamlessly across borders.

Our presence in Europe, North America and China means we’re able to source and unlock acquisition opportunities for our portfolio companies and provide better coordinated diligence and execution skills across international markets. This perspective – rare in middle market private equity – brings multiple benefits including the ability to translate trends in one market into investment ideas in another and to capitalise on regional valuation dislocations.

Alongside this Bridgepoint can also assist management teams in strengthening their skillset by identifying professionals whose expertise lies in expansion into a new markets and geographies, thereby optimising their ability in successful geographic expansion.

Buy and build expertise

Access to funding for acquisitions is key to value creation. We’ve worked with many management teams to help them target, fund and acquire competitors or expand product and service ranges within and outside their local markets, especially across Europe, US and China, thanks to our local presence in these regions.

As a result, Bridgepoint has built a reputation centred on building value and scale - making businesses stronger and often better positioned for success. In the last 10 years Bridgepoint has made over 350 add-on acquisitions on behalf of its investee companies.
