Sir Stuart Rose joins Bridgepoint’s European Advisory Committee

Bridgepoint, the European private equity firm, has appointed Sir Stuart Rose, chairman and former chief executive of Marks and Spencer plc, to its European Advisory Committee.

Sir Stuart, who became Executive Chairman of Marks and Spencer in June 2008, is a non-executive director of Land Securities plc and Chairman of Business in the Community. He has significant experience of the retail sector having begun his career at Marks & Spencer in 1972, before going on to the Burton Group, and becoming Chief Executive of its Multiples Division in 1994. He was also Chief Executive of Argos plc and of Booker plc.

Before re-joining Marks & Spencer as Chief Executive in 2004 Sir Stuart was Chief Executive of Arcadia Group plc from 2000 until 2002. He was knighted in 2008 for services to the retail industry and corporate social responsibility.

Sir Stuart said: "Bridgepoint is one of Europe's leading private equity groups and a major investor in retail. I am greatly looking forward to working closely with the team and providing consumer insight for their investments."

Commenting on the appointment, Bridgepoint managing partner William Jackson said: "I'm delighted that Stuart is joining Bridgepoint as an adviser. He's had a fantastic business career and has unparalleled experience in the retail world where Bridgepoint has made substantial investments over the years. It will be great to have him on the team."
